PangYa: how to find HWIs

this will be easy for those using excel, especially if they already encountered HWI several times..

in my part, i don't use excel, and in relation to my previous post, i don't belong to the complicated way of calculating aims, i simply use 1-2digit numbers(.45 .47 .6 .58 .53) inspired by the great sir Mygo..

[if you don't belong to this complicated group thing, then how do you count?]

i don't want to deal with scientific calculator, and a bunch of paper infront of me.. i memorized values in my head, i memorized values of HWI with yards as basis, and memorized trigonometric Sine degree values in my head by 5's (5 10 15 20 25 30 35..etc)

[then how do you count? how do you do all those things in your previous post without using a calculator?]

-_- i'll post it soon, but first, i'll show my own way of searching for HWIs for your drive..

since we have an equation:
Tiles = Sin(angle) x wind x HWI

as you can see, this falls under algebra, and we can derive this formula to solve for "HWI"..

which will give us:
HWI = Tiles / Sin(angle) x wind

my best tip is to look for atleast +2 or -2 hole height with flat ball slope..

try family mode, eastern valley, back.. it has a hole height not more than 1.5m, to do this, you must atleast be able to identify angles 30, 45, 60 to have basis..
if you're lucky, you might encounter the best angle with no doubt, 90degrees, with ofcourse, 9m wind..

we have to deal with strong winds, because if your HWI will work for 9m wind, it will surely work with any wind..

[i still don't get it, how will you find out your HWI with these?]

let's take eastern valley as an example, 225yards, .99m hole height.. 9m side wind..
all you have to do is take your Player1, shoot a tomahawk shot with no adjustments made..
after doing so, take your Player2, zoom in to the hole, move to where you're player1's ball went, and start clicking with your own way of counting, until you reach EXACTLY where the ball landed..

let's assume you used the unit Tiles
you ended up with 4.86 tiles

go back to the equation we derived
HWI = Tiles / Sin(angle) x wind

we have the following given:
tiles: 4.86
angle: Sin(90)
wind: 9

HWI = 4.86 / 1(9)

HWI = 4.86 / 9

HWI = .54

viola! now you have your HWI for your 225yards.. :)

now you know how to search for HWIs, try to look some for yourself, and build your own effective HWI set for your drive..

HWI hunting is not a joke, Goodluck!!!

see you around! :)

  1. Thanks for the guide,definitely going to try it out! :)

    just one question: Are these hwis set for pin method? or something different?

  2. affinite: in my opinion, i set my HWI through PIN method.. with wind and ball conditions, you have to get you final PIN to get your HWI..

    with PIN 244 being in rough will give you your final PIN as 248 because of ball condition being in rough, so you'll use the hwi for 248 PIN

  4. I read method to find HWI and I need to know
    power we use to find because power satisfy with
    pin 1 by 1 and adjustment Example distance 224
    Elevation 5 and Elevation -5 HWI are the same or not if not same how could find adjustment value?

  5. adjustment value in my opinion is done the hard way, which is trial and error.. usually with tomahawk, we have a certain adjustment for every +10 -10 pin height, in which we can estimate adjustment values in between the given height.. if you use tile, try .01 adjustment for every 3 height, it works quite well for me.. goodluck!

  6. Heya, and how do u use it if wind degree isn´t 90? Its hard without papers etc. thx

  7. that is what's making it hard to find HWI with some unknown angles, that's why we need effort to timing a side wind, but there's no problem if the angle is not 90, as long as you're sure what angle it is.. such as 30, 45, 60, 50, 40, because these angles are usually "kinda" easy to determine..

  8. How to get HWI based on ur club range/power?
    Will the club range/power can affect ur HWI?
